UPSC CIVIL SERVICES EXAM PATTERN -PRELIMS
The Civil Services Preliminary Examination conducted by the Union Public Service Commission will have two objective type question papers. The first question paper is of General Studies. Each question is of two marks and there are a total of 100 questions.
While the second question paper is of (Civil Services Aptitude Test) or CSAT which is a qualifying paper consisting of 80 questions of 2.5, 2.5 marks each.

The Civil Services Preliminary Examination Total marks 400 (where GS paper 2 is qualifying in nature with minimum qualifying marks fixed at 33%) Negative marking. 1/3 of the total marks allotted to the question will be deducted for every wrong answer Time ALLOTTED. Two hours each.

1. General studies
The Civil Services Preliminary Examination General studies (GS)is the First paper of the UPSC prelim exam.
The Civil Services Preliminary Examination It carries 200 marks and comprise topics related to
Indian polity, Geography, History, Indian Economy, Science and Technology, Environment and Ecology and International Relationship, Current events of national and international importance.
2.CSAT
The Civil Services Preliminary Examination CSAT is the second paper of the UPSC prelims exam it carries 200 marks and comprise topics related to
- Comprehension
- Interpersonal skills including communication skills
- Logical reasoning and analytical ability
- Decision -Making and problem solving
- General mental ability
- Basic numeracy (numbers and their relations, orders of magnitude, etc.) (Class X level), Data interpretation (charts, graphs, tables, data sufficiency, etc. Class X level)
